BRAC University on Wednesday lauded the students who are cleaning roads and controlling the traffic amid a lack of police presence and discipline among the general public following the ouster of Sheikh Hasina's Government a couple of days ago, says a press release.

"I have seen that you are cleaning the roads in front of your campus in groups. I have seen you are helping vehicles and people by managing the traffic," Professor Syed Mahfuzul Aziz, the acting Vice-Chancellor of BRAC University said in an open letter written in Bengali.

"We are delighted and inspired from your sense of responsibility at a time when the nation is passing a critical moment. We have faith that you can lead in the creation of a society, which is peaceful and free of discrimination," the statement says.

"We are with you. Let every one of us do our duties to ensure the safety of every one including the minority community," the statement adds.

At the end of the letter, Prof Aziz said he hopes for the safety and wellbeing of the students.

Bangladesh's president dissolved parliament on Tuesday, clearing the way for new elections a day after Sheikh Hasina resigned as the country's premier and fled to neighbouring India following student-led protests that left hundreds dead.
