GAZIPUR, Feb 28 (BSS): A seminar on 'Bokto' seeding technology, that helps sow all cereal crop seeds under both dry and wet conditions, was held recently at the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) here.

Bokto means 'soil cover in Korean' and there is no need for seedling nursery and transplanting in this technology because of direct seeding of rice seeds, scientists said.

BRRI Director General Dr Md Firoze Shah Sikder was present as the chief guest in the inaugural session with BRRI Coordinator for Advanced Studies and Research Dr Musherraf Husain in the chair.

BRRI Director (Research) Dr MA Salam and BRRI Director (Admin) Dr AW Zulfiquer also spoke on the occasion.

Professor Dr Kwang-Ho Park, Director General of the Agricultural and Rural Research Institute of Korea National Agriculture College, from South Korea presented the paper on 'High Tech-Bokto Seeding and its Feasibility in Bangladesh'. Two hundred BRRI and BARI scientists attended the seminar.
