BRTA launches training for city bus drivers

Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has launched a special training programme for the drivers of city bus services amid an increase in the road accidents due to reckless driving.

The number of road accidents has increased in the city recently as most of city buses are run by helpers-cum-drivers who hardly know traffic rules and have driving skills.

Officials said the special training programme was launched aiming to make the drivers aware of the traffic rules and improve the traffic system.

Some 200 drivers selected by Road Transport Owners Association and Road Transport Owners and Workers Unity will take part in training programme.

Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary inaugurated the training programme at the office of BRTA on Monday.

BRTA Chairman M Moshiar Rahman, its Director Sirajul Islam, Secretary General of Sarak Paribahan Malik Samity Enayet Khandaker and member secretary of Dhaka Sarak Paribahan Malik-Sramik Oikya Parisad Sadequr Rahman were present.

BRTA will launch more training based on the experience of the participants in the first two batches.

Doctors, BUET professors, traffic police, BRAC driving school instructors will be resource persons in the training programme.
