Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader announced on Sunday that 8-10 buses of BRTC will be kept stand-by at Farmgate in the city to reduce the transport crisis in the evening, reports UNB.
Talking to reporters after a surprise inspection at BRTC Bhaban, the minister said it has been observed that a large number of people stand in long queue for busses at Farmgate in the evening.
"To reduce this hassle, 8-10 buses of BRTC will remain stand-by at Farmgate at that time," he said adding that the buses will operate instantly whenever the pressure of passengers rises at that point during the afternoon.
He also said that BRTC will launch its service on the Dhaka-Shilong-Gouhati route in the beginning of next year.
Among other notable initiatives, BRTC will prioritise appointing women drivers in the coming days, he added.
The minister issued show-cause notices to 28 BRTC officers for their absence during his inspection.
