Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) will begin sale of advance bus tickets from September 26 under its 'Special Service' programme ahead of Eid-ul-Azha and Sharadia Durga Puja, officials said.
The special bus service will start from October 1, BRTC officials said.
Advance tickets for October 1 to 5 will be sold from September 26 to 30 and return tickets will be available from October 3 to October 8.
The tickets will be available at BRTC's Motijheel, Joar Shahara, Kalyanpur, Mirpur and Phulbaria depots in the capital, they said.
For the service, a total of 490 buses, both single and double deckers, will be travelling from the capital to other districts and a total of 900 buses will be in operation on different inter-district routes.
BRTC director (admin and operation) Nikhil Ranjan Roy told the FE that 82 AC (air conditioned) buses will also be added to the Eid special service and another 6 buses will be kept reserved to provide help in case buses are affected.
He said, "The special service will be available in all the districts where BRTC is in operation. Nearly 300 buses have been repaired recently," he said.
He informed that 60 buses will be kept reserved for carrying working class people ahead of the festivals.
"The buses will be waiting at Gabtoli, Gulistan, Sayedabad, Jatrabari and Mohakhali in the city," he said.
When contacted, BRTC Chairman Jashim Uddin Ahmed told the FE that price of tickets has been fixed by the corporation.
"If any staff member is found to collect extra money from a passenger, stern action would be taken against him and the lease of the depot would be cancelled," he said.
