Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association (BRTOA) called upon the government on Sunday to provide food assistance to the transport sector workers considering their plights during the ongoing lockdown.

"We (BRTOA) urge the government to provide rice at Tk 10 per kilogramme (kg) to the transport sector workers to help them to survive with their family members during the pandemic," Secretary General of BRTOA Khandaker Enayet Ullah said while distributing relief materials to 1,200 jobless transport workers from his personal fund at Mohakhali Inter-district Bus Terminal in the capital on the day.

He also said that the transport sector workers had been rendered jobless because of lockdown enforced since April 05, 2021.

Enayet Ullah, who is also managing director of Ena Transport Private Limited, mentioned that the transport sector workers have been facing difficulties to maintain their families during the present pandemic situation.

He stated that none could say how long the pandemic will remain.

Enayet called upon all transport owners to come forward for helping the needy transport workers during their present dire needs.
