The Bangladesh Students' Right Council (BSRC) has suspended its convener Hasan al Mamun, who faces allegations of rape made by a female Dhaka University (DU) student recently.
It has also formed a committee to probe the allegations, said a press release, signed by Rashed Khan, joint convener of the organisation, and issued on Wednesday.
The press release said that as two cases were filed against some members of the organisation on charges of rape and abetting the crime, it has suspended the main accused for the sake of investigation.
A three-member probe body was also formed to find out the truth, it added.
The probe body members are Bin Yamin Molla, president of DU unit of BSRC; and Tarek Rahman and Rafia Sultana, joint conveners of BSRC.
The probe body was asked to submit its investigation report with recommendations to the central executive committee of BSRC within 48 hours, the release said.
On Sunday night, the female DU student filed a rape case with Lalbagh Police Station against six members of BSRC, also known as quota reformist platform, including Nurul Haque Nur, who is a former DUCSU vice president.
The five other accused are Hasan Al Mamun, joint conveners of BSRC Nazmul Hasan Sohag and Saiful Islam, vice president Nazmul Huda and DU student Abdullah Hil Baki.
Mamun is the main accused in the case while Nur and others were his accomplices, according to the case statement.
On Monday, Nur and his supporters took to the streets to protest at the rape case, claiming that the case was filed to harass them. Immediately afterwards, Nur and six members of the platform were detained for some time before being released.
