BSTI destroys 2,100 unrefined water jars

The mobile courts of BSTI on Wednesday destroyed 2,100 dirty and non-food grade unrefined water jars and realised Tk50,000 in fine during its drives against different business establishments in the city.

A mobile court of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) led by its executive magistrate Mohammad Amimul Ehsan carried out raids at different hotels, restaurants and tea stalls in Elephant Road and Nilkhet areas and destroyed dirty and non-food grade unrefined water jars.

Another team of BSTI led by its deputy director Reazul Haque also fined Khwaja Enterprise at Shahjatpur, Gulshan in the city Tk 50,000 for selling or distributing water without CM license.

The BSTI mobile courts have been carrying out drives against different business establishments for irregularities over the last two years.

Over the last eight months, it (BSTI) has carried out drives against 94 business establishments.

Cases against 71 business establishments are still pending.

Till date, it has destroyed a total of 65,000 dirty and non-food grade unrefined water jars.
