BSTI usged to check marketing of unsafe drinking water

Leaders of Pure Drinking Water Manufacturing Association (PDWMA) urged the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) Tuesday to check marketing of unsafe drinking water in the country.
The request was made at a meeting of BSTI officials, PDWMA leaders and other water manufacturing institutions' representatives at its office in the city, a BSTI news release said. BSTI director general Iqramul Haque was the chief guest at the views exchange meeting while its product certification expert Dr. K.M. Formuzul Haque was the special guest.
Presided over by BSTI director (CM) Kamol Prasad Das, the meeting was attended, among others, by Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) general secretary Advocate Humayun Kabir Bhuiyan, PDWMA president Ariful Haque and representatives of different water manufacturing entities.
Mr Iqramul Haque said obtaining BSTI certificate is mandatory for manufacturing and selling drinking water, but many people are doing so without taking any such certificate.
He laid stress on working together with the businesses and other stakeholders concerned to supply the safe drinking water to the general people.
The PDWMA leaders also said may people were manufacturing and marketing unsafe drinking water."It is a matter of concern for both the BSTI and the PDWMA members." They also called for preventing the unscrupulous persons, and demanded of the BSTI to conduct more mobile courts to check such malpractice.
