Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu said Bangladesh Television (BTV) is committed to the people's welfare, reports BSS.

"One cannot think of life without TV today. It has become a part of our everyday life", the minister said this while speaking at the book-launching ceremony of Faridur Reza Sagar's book "50 years of Bangladesh Television" at a city hotel Tuesday.

Referring to the glorious past of BTV the minister said: "BTV is part of Bengali history. It has passed through many rough times to reach its present position. There is a conspiracy to alienate it from its past. It has to be protected from negative politics and bureaucracy. We are thinking of the options. In future, BTV will reflect the hopes and aspiration of the nation. It would have to assemble the best minds".

Mr Inu said: "We will bring changes to the recruitment system at BTV. So the people from other cadres cannot come here for vacation."

The minister went on and explained: "We have not been able to get rid of the garbage of the past. But BTV must turn around and respond to the needs of 350 million Bengali speaking people of the world."
