Bulkhead owner among six sued in Munshiganj

MUNSHIGANJ, Aug 06 (UNB): A case has been filed against six people including the bulkhead owner in connection with the trawler capsize in the tributary of the Padma River on Saturday, that claimed the lives of seven people.
Rubel Sheikh, a victim, filed the case against six people including the bulkhead owners and driver with Louhajang Police Station on Sunday afternoon, said Additional Superintendent of Munshiganj Police Sumon Deb.
However, no one was arrested in this connection.
A joint force of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), Coast guard members and local Fire Service conducted the salvage operation until the filling of this report at around 07:00 pm to retrieve the bodies of the missing people. Three people are still missing while bodies of seven people were retrieved on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the divers from Coast Guard and Fire Service pulled out the sunken trawlers from the river in the afternoon.
Earlier, on Saturday, the trawler with 46 passengers on board sank in the tributary of the Padma River after being hit by a bulkhead. The trawler with its passengers went to Sirajdikhan for a picnic and the ill-fated victims met the tragic accident while returning to Munshiganj.
Louhajang Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdul Awal, said 36 people among the 46 passengers managed to swim ashore while the divers managed to fish out seven bodies and three people remained missing.
