Bumper onion production likely in Faridpur

FARIDPUR, Feb 7 (BSS): Onion production in the district has exceeded the target bringing smile on the face of the farmers in the current season.

Onion, an important ingredient in the list of spices, has been cultivated on 29,500 hectares of land exceeding the earlier set target of 27,919 hectares. According to the sources of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), the exceeded target helped produce 10,000 tonnes more onion than expected quantity.

Now the expected production of onion would be around 304,437 tonnes while the original production target was 295,941 tonnes, sources said.

Onion has been cultivated on 4,076 hectares in Sadar Upazila, which would give an yield of 49,224 tonnes, in Char Bhadrasan Upazila, it has been cultivated on 1,150 hectares expected to produce 10,710 tonnes.
