Bumper production of winter vegetables in Faridpur

FARIDPUR, Nov 20: The farmers of the Faridpur district have started cultivating winter vegetables. They have grown various kinds of vegetables seedlings such as bean, pea, radish, tomato, cauliflower, cabbage and brinjal.
While visiting various parts of the district recently, this correspondent found that the formers were working at the vegetables fields with great zeal. Some of them told that they were expecting bumper production of vegetables this year. Women are also busy with work at vegetable fields.
According to a source at the Department of Agriulture Extention (DAE) 3600 hectares have been brought under winter vegetable cultivation in the district this year with a production target of 39,000 tonnes of vegetables.
A farmer can earn Tk 0.2 million from one area of land by cultivating early varity of tomato, they said.
Unemployed youths of diffient parts of the district have grown vegetable seedlings on a commercial basis.
