Bus driver on remand, helper gets bail

NATORE, Sept 05 (UNB): A court placed on Wednesday the driver of 'Challenger Paribahan' bus Shamim Hossain on a one-day remand and granted bail to helper Abdus Samad in a case filed over the killing of 15 people in a road accident in Lalpur upazila of the district.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Sultan Mahmud passed the order after sub-inspector Tariqul Islam of Banpara Highway Police, also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court.

Earlier on August 30, the court sent them to jail in the case and fixed September 05 for hearing the remand petition.

At least 15 people were killed and 15 others injured when the Bogura-bound bus of 'Challenger Paribahan' from Pabna hit a human-hauler carrying 15 passengers in Lalpur upazila on August 25.

A case was filed against seven people over the accident.
