Bus workers go on strike in Comilla

Bus movement between Comilla city and 10 other districts came to a halt on Friday as a section of bus workers of Jangalia Bus Terminal in Comilla city went on strike demanding punishment of those involved in Thursday’s attack on their leaders. Bus movement from the city to Feni, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Chandpur and Chittagong remained halted following the workers’ strike, causing immense sufferings to the passengers. Alamgir Hossain, organising secretary of Comilla Transport Workers Union, said the president of the union Mohammad Ali and general secretary Motaher Hossain were physically assaulted by some extortionists at Padua Bazar in the city on Thursday evening. Instead of taking action, Prashanto Pal, officer-in-charge of Sadar Dakkhin Police Station remained silent during the incident, he alleged. They also demanded withdrawal of Sadar Dakkhin OC. Besides, the union leaders also threatened to extend their strike allover the district if their demands are not met by today (Friday), according to UNB.
