Business-media ties linked to dev of businesses

Business leaders and media professionals at a discussion Wednesday in Bogra stressed greater cooperation between businesses and media for overall economic development of the country, said a press release.
They made the observation at a discussion on 'Scope of Business-Media Cooperation' in the auditorium of the Bogra Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The programme was organised jointly by the Business Reporters' Network (BRN) and the Management and Resources Development Initiative (MRDI) with support from Katalyst. Syed Ishtiaque Reza, Chief of News, RTV, moderated the discussion.
Md Amzad Hossain Sheikh, Staff Reporter of the Daily Manabzamin and Member, BRN, gave a brief presentation on the opportunities of business-media cooperation in the context of Bogra and surrounding districts in the northern region.
He narrated the existing challenges and opportunities of various established and emerging business sectors of Bogra including foundry, light engineering, agricultural machinery and parts, nursery and agricultural products.
Md Fazlur Rahman Paiker, president of Bogra Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said Bogra attained a significant advancement in different sectors of business in last few decades despite problems of lack of electricity supply, shortage of gas supply, high interest rate of loans, etc.
He expressed his optimism that better media coverage by business reporters would contribute to improving the business environment of Bogra and other business centres of northern Bangladesh. He sought cooperation of BRN in this regard.
Hasibur Rahman, Executive Director, MRDI, described the background of formation of the BRN and MRDI's cooperation with the network.
Prodip Bhattacharjee, Chief Reporter, Daily Karatoa, and Member, BRN, who coordinated the discussion programme, shared the vision and objectives of BRN and pledged for more qualitative and quantitative coverage of local businesses by the network members.
