Businessman Latifur Rahman's 3rd death anniv observed

The third death anniversary of Latifur Rahman, founding chairman of Transcom Group, one of the leading business groups of the country, was observed on Saturday.

A special prayer session on this occasion was held at the deceased's Gulshan residence in the city on Friday.

Latifur Rahman passed away on July 1 in 2020.

He was a member of the executive board of International Chamber of Commerce: ICC-Paris, Bangladesh Better Business Forum, Advisory Committee on World Trade Organisation, Brac's governing body and the vice president of ICC-Bangladesh.

He was president of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) for seven terms and held a significant position in the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI).

He was also chairman of the Bangladesh government's Trade Body Reforms Committee and a member of Bangladesh Bank's executive board. Latifur Rahman gained both national and international recognition as a businessman.

On May 7, 2012, he received the prestigious Oslo Business for Peace Award from the Business for Peace Foundation based in Norway.

In 1966, he joined W Rahman Jute Mills Limited, a family-owned enterprise, as an executive. Subsequently, in 1972, he ventured into the tea export business with Tea Holdings Limited.

He established Transcom Group. The business conglomerate encompasses several companies across diverse sectors, including pharmaceuticals, electrical and electronics, media, soft drinks, tea, and consumer goods.

Latifur Rahman was honoured with the best taxpayer award for five consecutive years, from 2016 to 2020, in the senior citizen category by the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
