Chief Adviser (CA) Professor Muhammad Yunus has said the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is performing its duties as the vanguard in border security, preventing smuggling, drug, women and children trafficking apart from safeguarding the geographical integrity and the country's sovereignty, reports BSS.
He made the remarks in a message issued on the occasion of the Border Guard Bangladesh Day 2025 today (Saturday).
Extending his greetings to all BGB members on the occasion, the CA said the BGB inherits a long history and glorious tradition of this region.
"In our great Liberation War in 1971, as many as 817 martyrs have glorified the BGB's history. A total of 119 soldiers of the border force, including two Bir Shresthas, received gallantry awards for their valiant roles in 1971."
The CA prayed for peace of the departed soul of all the members of the force, who sacrificed their lives at different times for the motherland.
Prof Yunus said the BGB is also playing a commendable role in maintaining overall law and order of the country and in dealing with any emergency situation, including natural disasters, and providing security to protect the lives and property of the people.
"Especially after the July Uprising, the BGB has been working professionally to protect the country's sovereignty and ensuring border security by preventing border tension and push-ins."
He wished all the programmes, organised on the occasion of the BGB Day 2025, an overall success.
