Chief Adviser (CA) Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed Thursday advised the poor meritorious students who defied the pangs of poverty and achieved glorious results in this year's SSC examination to continue to strive to climb the peak of professions to lead the nation, reports UNB.
He also asked them to set example for encouragement of the future generations through their successful career and extend their helping hands to those who could face the similar adverse situation in their student life.
The head of the caretaker government made the advice at a function of distribution of stipend among poor and underprivileged students who attained GPA-5 in SSC and equivalent examinations in 2008 at the International Conference Centre in the CA's office complex.
The CA took personal initiative to provide stipend from the special fund of the CA for the poor, very poor and underprivileged students to encourage and help them continue their studies for becoming worthy citizens of the country.
The stipend with an amount of Tk 500 per month for two years was given to 500 students covering 64 districts. Of them, 279 are boy students and 221 girls. Out of the 500 recipients, 423 passed SSC and 77 Dakhil examinations.
The CA handed over cheques for the stipend money to six students-one each from six divisions in the country.
Education Adviser Dr Hossian Zillur Rahman and Secretary of the CA's office Kazi M Aminul Islam also spoke at the function.
Stipend-recipient students Sheuli Akter of Brahmanbaria, M Hafizur Rahman of Bhurungamari of Kurigram and Shuvo Chandra Basak of Mymensingh spoke at the function to express their feelings.
Addressing the function, Dr Fakhruddin urged the country's well-off and corporate houses to extend assistance and cooperation for poor and underprivileged students to flourish their nascent talent.
He also urged the students, who are now continuing their higher-secondary studies in colleges and Madrahsas, to uphold their achievements with more devotion. "Remember, it is harder to sustain attainment," he said in a tone of a guardian.
Congratulating the students on their good results overcoming adversities, Fakhruddin said, "We are also happy with your results as your parents, guardians and teachers."
