The cabinet approved on Monday a master plan for comprehensive development of Cox's Bazar, the longest sandy sea beach in the world.
To push the move forward, the council of ministers approved the draft 'The Cox's Bazar Development Authority Act-2015', giving some regulatory powers for the development of the tourist destination.
"The cabinet approved the draft 'The Cox's Bazar Development Authority Act-2015' with a view to ensuring development of the tourist city under a master plan," cabinet secretary Muhammad Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan told journalists at Bangladesh Secretariat. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on the day.
He said the draft will now be placed in parliament for approval.
The Cox's Bazar Development Authority (CBDA) will be comprised of 15 members and out of them, four will be of full-time and 11 others will be representing different professional, administrative and elected bodies, Mr. Bhuiyan said.
"The committee will conduct land zoning and regulate the ongoing hazardous construction activities and others," he added.
The council of ministers also approved the draft 'National Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Policy-2015' to ensure effective use of the ICT to achieve national development goals and materialise the government's vision to make Bangladesh a middle income country by 2021 and a developed one by 2041.
Mr Bhuiyan said the ICT policy will be a developmental and promotional one which would be used for ensuring transparency and accountability of the government, human resources development, ensuring public services through public and private sector participation.
He said the policy has 10 specific objectives and 54 strategic themes with an action plan of 235 programmes that will be implemented by different organisations under short, medium and long -term work plan by the year 2016, 2018 and 2021.
The cabinet was also apprised of the participation of Bangladesh delegation at the 48th Board of Governors meeting of the Asian Development Bank from May 2- 5, 2015 in Baku in Azerbaijan and participation of state minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in IT Week Spring -2015 in Tokyo, Japan.
