National Committee to Protect Shipping, Roads and Railways (NCPSRR) demanded on Saturday initiating a drive against unauthorised vehicles immediately to help stop road accidents.
Their demand came following recent rise in road accidents when roads are comparatively traffic jam-free because of Eid vacation.
In a joint statement, NCPSRR advisers Manzurul Ahsan Khan and M Inamul Haque and convener Ashish Kumar Dey also said roads and highways turned into deathtraps. Nearly 250 people were killed in road accidents between 15 and 25 July because of unsafe driving.
They urged the authorities concerned to take stern actions against drivers running vehicles without licences.
The NCPSRR leaders also said although law enforcers and ministries and departments concerned acknowledged that unfit transports and unskilled and careless driving were responsible for such accidents, they were yet to take any especial move to check the menace.
