Speakers at a discussion Tuesday called upon the government to take necessary measures to accord due state honours to founder of the East Bengal Regiment and Language Movement veteran Major Abdul Gani.
Terming him as one of the greatest sons the country has ever had, they regretted the nation is yet to recognise contribution of such a personality although he had a remarkable contribution to the Language Movement and thereby to the Liberation War.
Major Gani died on November 11, 1957 in Frankfurt, West Germany. He had gone there as leader of the Pakistan delegation to the World Veteran Soldiers' Conference. He was buried in Mainamati Cantonment in Comilla.
