Call to include environment, ecosystem in dev plan

FE Report | June 07, 2015 00:00:00

Environmentalists Friday blamed three British policies that took roots during the Pakistan period for the present state of Dhaka, the second worst liveable city in the world.

The three policies are: centralised economic activities, formulation of plan for providing facilities to a group of people keeping the majority out of development plans and exclusion of environment and natural ecosystem from development plan and management.

They called upon the government to give top priority to the benefit of masses along with inclusion of environment and natural ecosystem in development plan to restore city's liveability.

They made the call at a roundtable discussion organised at Shamsul Haque auditorium of Dhaka University, marking World Environment Day 2015. Paribesh Bachao Andolon (POBA) and DU Paribesh Sangsad jointly organised the discussion.

POBA joint general secretary Lelin Chowdhury chaired the discussion while its chairman Abu Naser Khan, Ahsan Ullah Science and Technology University vice-chancellor Professor SM Shafiullah and POBA assistant secretary Shahin Aziz, among others, spoke on the occasion.
