RAJSHAHI, June 8 (BSS): Agriculture experts stressed the need for successful promotion of integrated pest management system in the agri-fields for ensuring sound and healthy environment.
"The destructive pests can easily be controlled through promoting a balanced fertilizer method instead of chemical insecticides," they said while addressing a farmer's field day at Huzripara village under Paba Upazila.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) under its Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Project arranged the field day aimed at creating awareness among the farmers regarding IPM system.
"All insects are not harmful for the crops but all the chemical pesticides or insecticides are more or less endangered for both human health and other beneficial insects", they mentioned.
So, we have to devise ways and means of controlling harmful pests in hygienic way instead of poisoning.
In this context, they said bio-pest management system should be promoted among the growers to protect the beneficial insects from degradation for the sake of maintaining sound environment that is very essential for the nation.
Deputy Project Director of IPM Abdullah Ibrahim, Deputy Director of DAE Rabindra Kumar Majumder, District Training Officer Rustom Ali Mondal, Plant Protection Specialist Hasan Ali, Crop Protection Specialist Anwarul Azim and Upazila Agriculture Officer Ansar Ali addressed the farmers gathering.
They urged the attending farmers to adopt the invented integrated pest management system and disseminate the attained knowledge among other farmers.
Referring to various aspects of the system, they said IPM is very low cost than that of the pesticides and importance should be given on more multiplication of the integrated system in the greater interest of making it successful among the farmers level.
