United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), UNWomen, and Ministry of Women and Children Affairs jointly organised the launching of 16 Days Activism for the elimination of all forms of violence against women from society Tuesday.
The programme was held at the National Press Club in the city. The opening ceremony was led by a bicycle rally with the participation of 150 young people wearing orange colour T-shirts and caps to disseminate the messages for ending gender-based violence.
Women and Children Affairs Secretary Tariq-Ul-Islam, UNFPA Representative Ms Argentina Matavel Piccin, representatives from UNWomen and various GO, NGO, CSO and other UN and development partners were present at the opening ceremony.
The 16 Days Activism is an international campaign that started in 1991. Since then, over 5,179 groups in 187 countries took part in the campaign.
