Cargo ship sinks in river after hitting oil tanker

PIROJPUR, Aug 14 (UNB): A cargo ship, carrying 931 tonnes of clinker cement, sank in the river Sandha near Kawkhali upazila launch ghat under Pirojpur district today (Thursday).

The crew, including ship master, escaped safely.

Police and witnesses said the ship 'MV Khodeja-1' collided with an oil-tanker and sank in high waves after its engine also went out of order during the accident.

"The ship was carrying the clinker from Chhatak in Sylhet to Sena Kalyan Sangstha Cement Factory in Mongla seaport," ship master said.
