CHITTAGONG, July 13 (BSS): President of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Friday earnestly welcomed the seven-point proposal placed by the Army Chief Moeen U Ahmed to free the society and the state from corruption.
"The business community of the country sincerely welcomes the army chief for the proposals he placed at a seminar recently to establish a corruption-free society and a state," the CCCI president said in a fax-message to Moeen U Ahmed.
The CCCI president, in the letter, said the overall socio- economic progress of the country was hindered seriously in the past due to corruption.
Terming the unwavering voice of the army chief on the issues like boycotting corrupt persons socially, continuing the ongoing fight against corruption and corrupt persons, taking stern punitive measures against those involved in corruption as "very timely" , the CCCI president said proper and complete implementation of such proposals would help establish a meaningful democratic environment in the country.
Saifuzzaman Chowdhury observed that a collective state leadership can not be ensured without abolishing the dynastic politics from the country.
He also said that the parliamentary democracy in the country was on the verge of collapse due to anti-economic activities of the rival political parties in the name of democratic practice.
The CCCI chief said the country now has got a real chance to institutionalise the parliamentary democracy with the supports of the patriotic armed forces to the caretaker government following the declaration of state of emergency and its current efforts to hold a free, fair and credible general election.
Extending strong support to the army chief's proposal to appoint parliamentary ombudsman and establish an independent and neutral judiciary, he said such measures would pave the way for a sustainable parliamentary democracy and credible judiciary in the country.
The CCCI president also advocated uprooting of corruption in the administration and said the country could get rid of the menace by ensuring the free flow of information.
