CHITTAGONG, Aug 12: Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) has found out a total of 60 buildings scattered in the port city as very risky and gave necessary directive asking the owners of those to demolish them, concerned sources said.
Under the directive, the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) is undertaking initiatives to demolish the risky buildings.
In this connection, a meeting was recently held with the owners of the concerned buildings, service-providers and officials at the CCC auditorium. Acting Mayor of CCC Monzur Alam was in the chair.
He said, Chittagong is now a vulnerable city against the backdrop of landslide, earthquake, flood, cyclone, etc. It has, therefore, become essential to demolish the risky buildings for ensuring the safety of the lives and property of the city dwellers, he added.
As there is a specific directive of the government to demolish the old and risky buildings, he has requested the concerned owners to demolish the same as these are likely to collapse at any time.
He also assured them of providing all sorts of help and cooperation for demolishing the buildings.
