CHITTAGONG, Sept 17: A workshop was held under the joint auspices of Chittagong District Police (CDP) and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Monday to motivate the professional drivers of vehicles and creating awareness so that road accidents could be prevented.
Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police Mohammad Ali presided over the workshop while Superinten-dent of Police (SP) of Chittagong Kamrul Ahsan was present as the chief guest at the workshop.
Speaking on the occasion, Kamrul Ahsan expressed his concern that in case of an accidental death, the victim's family was thrown into a prolonged state of sorrow as well as unending and unbearable sufferings.
He asked the drivers to drive their vehicles with utmost care as the death of the only earning member of any family brought about lifelong disaster to that family. As the entire transport system of the country, to a great extent depended on road transport, the number of road accidents had also been increased alarmingly. Moreover, most of the drivers were not properly trained and did not have genuine licence, he added.
Mohammad Ali stressed on the need for enhancing the awareness of the drivers working with road transports and expressed his optimism that organising workshops of similar nature would be helpful to the professional drivers in preventing road accident.
Road transport workers leader Mrinal Chowdhury, Traffic Inspector Md Shajahan, Sitakund Thana Officer In-charge Abdus Salam and BRTA Motor Vehicles Inspector Shamsher Ali also spoke on the occasion.
