MYMENSINGH, May 23 (BSS): The 115th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam will be celebrated in Trishal through a three-day national level programme.
The celebration, jointly organised by Cultural Affairs Ministry and Mymensingh district administration, will begin on May 25 at Darirampur Nazrul Mancha and continue until May 27.
The programme included colourful rallies, discussion meetings, cultural shows, gathering of poets, staging of dramas and dance sequences. Eminent artistes of the country will attend the cultural shows.
A three-day fair styled 'Nazrul Mela' will also be held marking the occasion.
Rebel poet Nazrul, born at village Churulia of Bardwan district in West Bengal in India on May 25 in 1899, stayed for about a year in his boyhood at village Darirampur in Trishal and studied at Darirampur High School.
Kazi Rafiz Ullah, a sub-inspector (SI) of police working at Bardwan at that time, brought Nazrul to his village home at Kazir Shimla in Trishal in 1914. Still the people of Trishal and Mymensingh district as well remember Nazrul as their near and dear one.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith will inaugurate the celebrations as the chief guest. Minister for Religious Affairs Principal Matiur Rahman and advocate Reza Ali will be the special guests with Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor in the chair at the opening ceremony.
