CHITTAGONG, Jul 21: The trial court has ordered 10 days' police remand for Saiful Islam of a C&F firm in Chittagong in connection with the smuggling of liquid cocaine in Sunflower brand edible oil.
The order came on Tuesday as the police prayed for interrogating Saiful to as a "very important accused". Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Farid Alam issued the order.
The police arrested Saiful on July 14 last from the city's Agrabad area.
The court has also ordered the investigation officer (IO) of the case to submit the progress report and other information of the investigation at the earliest possible time. The court, however, did not mention any deadline for submission of the report.
Chittagong Metropolitan Public Prosecutor (PP) Fakhruddin Chowdhury said Saiful Islam is a very important accused in the case as he was reportedly trying to get the consignment released from the Chittagong Port.
"We applied for taking Islam on 0 days' police remand to interrogate him and the court has granted," he said.
