July 05, 2007 00:00:00

A chaotic situation was prevailing Wednesday morning in Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) following alleged manhandling of a physician by visitors of a patient, reports UNB.
Badal (32), a patient, was admitted to Ward No 3 of DMCH with chest pain at about 12:30 am and died half an hour later.
Before his death, relatives of the patient called on duty physician Ziaul Haque for attending the patient. As the doctor did not comply with their request and as Badal died, they beat the doctor.
Hearing about the manhandling of the physician, intern doctors chased the relatives of the deceased that resulted in fresh chase and counter chase.
At 6:00 am, the intern doctors forcibly locked two gates of the emergency section, depriving the patients of using the gates until 7:45 am.
Receiving information, hospital authorities reopened the two gates at about 7:45 am and informed Shahbag police who rushed to the spot and started looking for the troublemakers.
