Finance Minister AMA Muhith said Wednesday a child budget will be prepared and placed in the parliament next month for the first time in the country.
At a pre-budget discussion with 'Parliamentary Caucus on Child Right' at the ministry's conference room, he also said a guideline for the use of child budget is under preparation.
Mr Muhith said definition of children needs to be clearer for their welfare. He said he will launch a national debate to set the age of infants, teens, juveniles, and youths.
He said in general term the age of children is up to 18, 'but for our own use, we need to set the age definition of infants, teens, juveniles, and youths'.
Deputy Speaker M Fazle Rabbi Mia led the delegation which also included among others Enamur Rahman, MP, Fazilutonnesa Bappi, MP, and Umme Razia Kazal, MP.
Mr Muhith said while preparing the child budget it was noticed that identification of allocation for children was complicated.
"We were excepting that the ministry of women and children should be nucleus for welfare of children, but that did not happen properly," he said.
The ministry only took some projects for either children or women, but it did not find what has happened till now.
Mr Muhith said since the child budget is being prepared for the first time in the country this year, it may not be as suitable as expected. But the budget will give focus on allocating money for children through health, primary education and youth and sports ministries.
He said until now children get priority in only pre-school stage, while in health sector no special care is given.
