Expressing his extreme concern over alleged cheating on hiring manpower for the Padma bridge project, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader made it clear Sunday that there is no such scope but the Chinese company, which got the contract for the construction of this bridge, has been authorised for recruitment, reports BSS.
"Only the China Major Bridge Engineering Company has been authorised to recruit manpower for the Padma bridge project. No other organisation can hire manpower for the project," he told journalists after a meeting at the Setu Bhaban in the city.
Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury Liton MP, Sagufta Yeasmin Amily MP, Awami League (AL) Organising Secretary BM Mozammel Haque MP, deputy commissioners of Munshiganj and Madaripur, Project Director of Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project M Shafiqul Islam Hasan and civil society representatives attended the meeting.
The minister said other organisations engaged in the construction of the country's largest-ever bridge had not placed any advertisement for recruitment of manpower for the project.
"A vested group of frauds using fake authorisation letters are cheating with the poor people on false promises of giving them jobs in the Padma bridge project, he said adding, "the Bridges Division and the Bangladesh Army had not placed any advertisements to recruit manpower for the project.
Mr Quader also sounded a note of warning for the people, urging them not to go for any transaction of money on false promises of getting job in the Padma Bridge project.
"An agreement for construction of the Padma Bridge will be signed this month and we will get Bank guarantee within a week," he said adding that the bridge is being constructed with own finance.
A technical team of the China Major Bridge Engineering Company will visit Bangladesh shortly.
