Chinese worker of Padma Bridge project drowns

An employee of a Chinese company assigned for the Padma Bridge project drowned in the Padma river while working at the Mawa site on Wednesday night.

Bangladesh Bridge Authority sources confirmed it. The body of the electrician Lequan of SinoHydroCorporation was recovered near Mawaghat on Thursday morning.

Sources said the electrician might have slipped from the company barge while he along with seven/eight others was working on the site.

The SinoHydro is scheduled to start the river training work for the Padma Bridge project on an emergency basis within a few days to protect Mawa site from river erosion.

The SinoHydroCorporation won the Padma Bridge project's second largest river training work in November under which it has to protect the river from erosion and ensure flow of the river below the bridge.
