The organisers in a media briefing on Saturday said the daylong event will not only help educate the youths about the roles and challenges of the SDGs but also letting policymakers to know expectations of the future leaders of the economy.

The conference will be held at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) in the city where various programmes like discussion, debate and photo as well as short film exhibitions will be showcased.

In the youth conference titled 'Bangladesh and Agenda 2030; aspirations of the youth', some 1500 youths from different parts of the country are expected to attend to showcase and explore their aspirations as regards to national development.

Convener of the platform and distinguished fellow of the Centre for Policy Dialogue Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya briefed the media about the event at CIRDAP conference room in the city.

He said the government cannot implement the targets of SDGs alone. It needs help from private sector and citizens as a whole.

Terming the conference very important to reach the targets, he said one-third of the population in Bangladesh is youths and they will lead the proceeding of SDGs in the coming years.

"So, the policymakers need to know what the community expects as far as policy formulation and actions plan are concerned. And it is a kind of platform where youths will express their thinking about it," he said.

Core group member of the platform TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman hailed contributions and roles of the youths in the country's socioeconomic development journey.

"If the country fails to reach SDGs, the youths would suffer most. On the other hand, youths will gain most on successful implementation of the journey," he added.

Another core member, executive director of Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) Shaheen Anam said strong and energetic youths can make Bangladesh equal and free from all kinds of discrimination.

"That's why, we prioritised the community to implement the agenda of inclusive development where no one will be leaving behind," she added.

Youth representatives of the several associate entities of the platform also spoke on the pre-conference briefing.

Later, the organisers inaugurated the logo of the event and its website (www.youthconf18.bdplatform4sdgs.net) where detailed information will be available.
