CJ lauds progress in empowering women

Chief Justice (CJ) M Muzammel Hossain Saturday lauded the recent development in empowering women in Bangladesh but also sounded a note of caution saying there is no place for complacency yet, reports BSS.

"Bangladesh has made some tremendous achievement in women empowerment. Number of woman judges has been increased significantly. Number of woman lawyers is also on rise," he said.

The chief justice came up with the observation while addressing a justice sector conference on violence against women in Bangladesh. Ministry of Law is staging this two-day conference at Ruposhi Bangla Hotel, with the support from UNDP's justice sector facility project.

ASSM Zahirul Haque, secretary (in-charge) of Law and Justice Division, UNDP's deputy country director Nick Beresford, rector of Police Staff College Nazmul Haque PPM, additional attorney general MK Rahman, Law and Justice Division joint secretary Syed Aminul Islam addressed the inaugural ceremony of the conference.  Justice Naima Haider was also present at the function.
