Clash kills one, injures seven in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, July 7(UNB): A man was killed and seven others injured in a violent clash between two rival groups over a land dispute at Chandia Hanifpara village in Phulsari Upazila Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Hajrat Ali (40), of the village.
Police said a dispute has long been prevailing between Hajrat Ali and his neighbour Rahimuddin over a piece of land.
Local people said when Hajrat Ali along with his supporters went to the land for preparing seedbed at noon Rahimuddin and his men swooped on them triggering a fierce clash that left Hajrat Ali dead on the spot.
Of the injured, Monowara Begum, Moiful Bewa, Joinal, Moijal, Abijal and Mohammad Ali were admitted to the Sadar hospital where conditions of Moijal and Abijal were stated to be critical. A case was filed with the local thana.
Another report from Jamalpur adds: At least eight people were injured in a clash between two groups of people at Bausi Bangalipara village in Sarishabari Upazila Friday.
Police said the clash erupted at 9:00 am between the supporters of Suruj and Kaikobad over a land dispute, leaving eight people, including five women injured.
On information, police rushed in and brought the situation under control and arrested five people in this collection.
The injured were admitted to the Upazila Health Complex.
