The class IV employees of the government demanded Friday that the government immediately review the proposed pay scale keeping Tk 16,000 instead of the proposed Tk 8,250 as employees' lowest basic salary, reports UNB.

The demand came from a press conference organised by Bangladesh Class Four Government Employees Association at the Jatiya Press Club.

Terming the proposed pay scale discriminatory, acting president of the association Md Aminur Rahman said the difference between scales of officers is in between Tk 5000 and 10,000, whereas the gap between the scales of employees is only few hundred.

"The proposed scale will bring no benefit to the class IV employees and it will be impossible to live a minimum decent life with six family members with the salary structure," he said.

Additional secretary general Md Abul Hossain said, "We pressed our demand to the finance minister and he assured us to settle the issue."

They also urged the government for continuation of timescale and 100 per cent selection grade for the low-tier public servants who have limited scopes for promotions.

The association leaders also threatened that they would go for tougher movement if their demand is not met immediately.

Among others, secretary general of the association Md Matiur Rahman and Joint Secretary General Nur Alam were present on the occasion.
