Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources Syeda Rizwana Hasan has stressed the need for concerted efforts to build a green and sustainable Bangladesh, reports BSS.
"Building a green and sustainable Bangladesh in possible only through collective efforts. Everyone must step forward from our respective position to help rebuild and protect the environment," the Adviser said while speaking as the chief guest at the 'Dwijen Sharma Poribesh Padak-2024' award giving ceremony.
BRAC Bank and Tarupallab jointly organized the event at the Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad Auditorium of Bangla Academy in the capital on Saturday.
The Adviser said the struggle to protect the environment is not limited to policies or programs rather it is a responsibility for future generations.
"For this, civil society, government and the private sector must work together," she added.
Stressing the need for collective support, she said, the continuous contribution of the people has always played an important role in the conservation of the country's nature and environment and will continue to do so in the future.
"Dhaka is much greener today than before. Roof gardens can now be seen on the roofs of almost every house. People love nature and this spiritual bond will never be broken," she added.
Tarupallab General Secretary Mokarram Hossain presided over the event.
Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor Nurun Nahar, BRAC Bank Vice Chairman Faruk Moinuddin Ahmed, Managing Director and CEO (acting) Tarek Refat Ullah Khan and Tarupallab Vice President Shahjahan Mridha Benu joined the program as the special guests.
At this year's event, four people were awarded the 'Dwijen Sharma Environment Award 2024' for their special contribution to environmental conservation.
The 'Brikkho-Sokha' (tree friend) award went to Md. Aminul Islam of Jhenaidah, Project Sonapahar of Mirsarai, and Sabuj Chakma of Rangamati.
In addition, the Biodiversity Award went to Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan, a life member of the Bangla Academy.
