The government has transferred the police commissioner of Rajshahi two days after university teacher AKM Shafiul Islam was hacked to death near campus, reports bdnews24.com.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mahbubur Rahman has been made additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said a circular released Monday.
Dhaka's Additional Police Commissioner Md Shamsuddin will take over as Rajshahi police commissioner, said police spokesman AKM Kamrul Hasan.
Prof Islam who taught sociology at Rajshahi University died after being hacked by assailants at noon on Saturday.
Police have arrested nearly three dozen suspects but failed to identify the killers.
The case filed over the murder by university registrar Entajul Haque on Sunday also did not specifically accuse anyone.
The suspects include Humayun Ahmed, principal of Islamia College, a stronghold of Islami Chhatra Shibir.
Earlier, a facebook group, named Ansar al Islam Bangladesh-2, opened few hours after the attack took responsibility for killing the sociology teacher.
But police could not confirm if there was a militant group active in Bangladesh in that name, or if it was a ploy to distract investigators from the real criminals.
