KHULNA, Oct 3 (BSS): A colourful traditional boat race was held yesterday in the river Rupsha.
Organised by Khulna City Social and Cultural Center (KCSCC), nine boats coming from different districts in Khulna division participated in the competition.
The race started from Customs Ghat no-1 at 3.30 pm and ended at Khanjahan Ali Rupsha Bridge.
Despite the torrential rains, thousands of curious people cheered on the two banks of the river when the boats were crossing them.
Joybangla Group of Magura stood first and Nabadut Group of Satkhira second in the competition.
Chaired by city social and colourful centre president Maruf Rashid KCC mayor Talukder Abdul Khalek inaugurated the boat race and distributed prizes among the winners as the chief guest.
Khulna divisional commissioner Eunusur Rahman, KMP commissioner M Helal Uddin Badri, Khulna deputy commissioner NM Panel mayor-1 Azmd Ahmed Tapan, regional commercial head of Banglalink Babul Haque and advisors of the centre Sheikh Abdul Mannan and Ashraf-uz-Zaman were presented as the special guests. Later, a colourful cultural programme was held on Rupsha premises.
