The overpass at the Comilla level-crossing on the Dhaka-Chittagong four-lane highway is set to open in June next.
Rafiqul Anam, chief engineer of the Project Builders Limited (PBL) tasked with the construction, said in June next they were going to open two lanes of the highway at the point.
That would help reduce the traffic snarl caused by passage of trains through the point several times a day, he added.
The 640-metre long four-lane overpass is being constructed as part of the structural work on the Dhaka-Chittagong four-lane highway at a cost of Tk 1.0 billion (100 crore).
The overpass construction is financed by the government under the Package B1 of the four-lane highway project. The package also includes another overpass at the Feni level-crossing and a good number of culverts and bridges on the highway.
