Community policing to check domestic violence, girls’ teasing

GAIBANDHA, Oct 4 (BSS): Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police, Rajshahi Range A K M Shahidul Hoque has said community policing could play an important role in preventing domestic violence and girls' teasing in the society.
"To check all kinds of crimes in the society the community policing committee should be formed at union, ward and village levels," he said while addressing the inaugural function of a workshop on the prevention of domestic violence and girls' teasing at the police lines Thursday.
Community policing district coordination committee (CPDCC) organised the workshop in cooperation with Gono Unnoyon Kendro and Oxfam-GB, Bangladesh.
The DIG called upon all to make the ongoing community policing successful through spontaneous participation of all to root out all sorts of crimes, including domestic violence and girls' teasing, from society.
The keynote papers on domestic violence and girls' teasing were read out by member secretary of CPDCC Sekandar Azam Anan and its member Jahanara Khatun.
Abdus Salam, convener of CPDCC, delivered the welcome speech.
Superintendents of Police of 16 northern districts, members of all upazila and district-level committees of community policing, local elite, public representatives and journalists took part at the workshop.
