Concern launches project to uplift poor lives in haors

Concern Worldwide Thursday launched Haor Initiative for Sustainable Alternative Livelihoods (HISAL) project, a five-year initiative, with a view to improving the lives of over 20,000 extremely poor families living in the deep haors of the country, reports UNB.
The HISAL will work with more than 1400 self help groups with 90 per cent female membership.
Concern Worldwide, Bangladesh, in partnership with eight local organisations is implementing the project in the deep and remote haors of five upazilas of Kishoreganj, Habiganj and Sunamganj districts.
Agriculture Adviser CS Karim attended the launching ceremony at the LGED Auditorium in the city as the chief guest while Secretary of Fisheries and Livestock Ministry Syed Ataur Rahman was present as the special guest.
A photographic exhibition was also held highlighting the lives of Haor communities as well as a working model of a Haor village during floods.
The launching ceremony was jointly hosted by Power and Participation Research Centre and Concern Worldwide.
Country Director of Concern Worldwide Kieron Crawley chaired the ceremony.
