Constable hangs himself at Demra Police Lines

A police constable has committed suicide by hanging himself in a multi-storey building at Demra Police Lines in the capital.

The deceased was identified as Saidul Islam, (21).

At around 11:30pm on Thursday, Saidul reportedly hanged himself from a ceiling fan with a bed sheet in his room on the seventh floor of a 20-storey building at Demra Police Lines.

He was rescued and first taken to a local hospital.

Later he was moved to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in an unconscious condition at around 5:00am on Friday, where the attending doctor declared him dead.

Saidul had joined the police force as a constable nine months ago.

He was son of Md Sadeq, a resident of North Chandpur village in Lemua union of Feni district.
