A Dhaka court on Sunday placed Kawsar Ali, who allegedly shot his colleague Monirul Islam to death while on duty in Baridhara diplomatic zone, on a seven-day remand, reports UNB.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shakil Ahmed passed the order when sub-inspector Md Mannaf of Gulshan Police Station and also the investigating officer of a case filed over the killing, produced him before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.

According to the case statement, two constables--Manirul Islam and Kawsar Ali were performing their duties in front of Palestine Embassy in the diplomatic zone area in Baridhara from 09:00 pm.

At one stage, Kawsar opened fire on him, leaving Manirul dead on the spot.

The shooting caused widespread panic, leading to road closures in the surrounding area. Special police forces, including SWAT and the Detective Branch, took about half an hour to disarm and apprehend Kawsar.
