Construction site accidents claim two lives


Two separate accidents in construction sites of the Dhaka Elevated Expressway (DEE) took lives of two persons in a span of just two days till Thursday.
An accident occurred after 10:30 am on Thursday when a crane of the DEE project fell on a worker at the Tejgaon construction site near pier number 349 while trying to move from the spot.
Tejgaon Police Station Sub Iinspector Nuruzzaman Bhuiyan told the FE that they rushed to the spot after getting information around 10:45 am and found Shamim Miah with severely head injury.
The worker aged about 36 was rushed to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
The body has been kept at the hospital's morgue.
Earlier on Wednesday, a hawker identified as Matiur Rahman, 50, died after a steel frame from above under-construction elevated structure fell on him at the DEE's Moghbazar construction site.
With this, three persons have been killed since construction of the country's first elevated expressway continuing mostly along the city's railway corridor under the Public Private Partnership began three years ago.
A 12-year-old boy died when an iron rod fell on him from above at the expressway construction site in Mohakhali area.
