Construction work of BMU faculty buildings starts

CHATTOGRAM, July 21: Bangabandhu Maritime University (BMU) in Chattogram has started construction works of its permanent faculty buildings.
Deputy Minister for Education Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, MP, inaugurated the construction works at a function at Hotel Radison Blu in the port city on Sunday morning.
The state minister said, "We cannot achieve the standard of education as there is a lack of discipline in the sector."
"If we can bring the discipline back in our education sector particularly in higher education, the universities of our country will be on the list of educational institutions with international standard soon, " he added.
He said, "Bangladesh Navy is working to establish the Bangabandhu Maritime University. So, I hope that the university will be world class one."
Vice chancellor (VC) of Bangabandhu Maritime University Rear Admiral Khaled Ikbal presided over the inaugural function while Chairman of University Grants Commission Prof Dr Kazi Shahidullah addressed it, among others.
The VC said there are 12 universities in maritime sector of the world, including Bangabandhu Maritime University. Our university will be the world class one."
He said the government approved a total of 2850 manpower in the organogram of Bangabandhu Maritime University. There are 37 subjects, seven faculties in the university.
The university now has master's degree programme. After completing the construction works, 3500 students will be able to get admitted to graduation courses within 2021 and 6000 students within 2025. The Bangabandhu Maritime University will be a residential one," the VC added.
