Contempt petition against Hafizuddin Khan, Badiul Alam

A contempt of court petition has been filed with the Supreme Court against Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan) president M Hafizuddin Khan and its secretary Dr Badiul Alam Majumder for their statement demanding withdrawal of all cases filed against Jagannath University student Khadijatul Kubra and her bail.

Four Supreme Court lawyers, Moniruzzaman Khan Rana, Mohammad Harun Or Rashid, Mahfuzur Rahman Roman and Shafiq Raihan Shawon, filed the petition with the Supreme Court on Monday.

Shafiq Raihan Shawon said they will place the petition in the Chamber Court of the Appellate Division very soon for hearing.

They prayed to the court to issue a rule upon the respondents to explain as to why a contempt of court proceeding should not be initiated against Hafizuddin Khan and Badiul Alam Majumder.

On July 10 this year, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court stayed a High Court order that granted bail to Khadijatul in two separate cases filed against her under the Digital Security Act and kept four petitions related to her bail stand over (waiting for hearing) for four months.

Later on July 12, Shujan issued a statement demanding her release and withdrawal of all cases filed against her.
